September didn’t exactly sneak out the door at Comedy Heights. It left laughing. Geoff Grooms headlined Friday and Saturday at Lestat’s and gave both nights a strong center. Geoff brings a lot of life to the microphone, growing up as a military brat, working in cyber security for the Navy, spending way too much time in the gym, and somehow finding jokes in all of it. The rest of the weekend belonged to Marissa Papet, Kristy Guy and Chrissy Castriota, who each took the room somewhere different. That’s what made these shows work. The audience never knew exactly what kind of comedian was coming up next, and nobody was trying to be a copy of the person before them. There’s something about Lestat’s when a show gets rolling. It’s a small room, everybody is close, and a comedian knows pretty quickly whether a joke worked. There is nowhere to hide. Fortunately, this weekend nobody needed to. Thanks to Geoff, Marissa, Kristy and Chrissy, and to everyone who came out and spent Friday or Saturday night with us. September is done. The microphone is still warm.
