Brett Swanson's summer-camp-style singalong is coming back to the Lyric Hyperion, this time in winter! We’re creating a classic campfire sing-along experience for adults who miss camp and those who never went. No talent or experience required -- just a willingness to sing your darn heart out as we come together to belt out some silly camp songs, Americana classics, rowdy jams, odes to Fred, and cowboy lullabies. All proceeds will go to A Thousand Summers, a charity that provides transformative summer camp experiences for youth who would otherwise not be able to attend. FAQ: * Wait, what is a singalong? A singalong is an event where a group of people get together to sing songs. Brett will lead the songs. You will sing. We will all sing, together. You'll leave feeling happier, more connected, and more human. Our instagram page -- @ swansonsingalong -- has some videos and such to give you an idea of the vibe, tho it is an experience that's about the experience you yourself experience, not a performance for the sake of consumption by others. * What if I don't know the songs? Some of the songs will be 'call and response' songs that don't require any foreknowledge. For the 'regular' songs, songbooks will be provided, so lyrics are not a problem! You will likely know many of the tunes, but, if you don't, Brett will teach them as we go... and, when in doubt, just sing louder! * What songs will we be singing? Here's the Spotify playlist that has our current song list , which will expand over time! * What if I have a request for a song we should sing? Send it our way, up until one week before the event -- requests will be considered, but no promises! E-mail: Swansonsingalong@gmail.com . * What if I’m, not, like, a good singer? Great! The more not-good singers, the better. * Are there rules or expectations or whatever? If you're being kind and having a good time, you're doing it right. * What if this sounds super fun and like a memorable, enjoyable communal experience that will act as an edifying and connected and uplifting counterweight to our overly digitized and disconnected day to day lives of being distracted from distraction by distraction / filled with fancies and empty of meaning / tumid apathy with no concentration / neither daylight investing form with lucid stillness / nor darkness to purify the soul / in this twittering world... but I'm nervous about going cuz it's new to me and maybe I don't know anyone and tbh it seems kinda weird? Then you should come! It IS kinda weird, but so are you! So am I! It will be a warm, welcoming environment. Show up, kinda nervous and all, and you'll have a good time. * Who is Brett Swanson? Brett Swanson is a screenwriter, library associate, hiking guide, and long-time camp counselor who loves to sing in groups and bring people together. Currently working at the American Film Institute's Louis B. Mayer library, he has decades of experience as a song leader and camp counselor: He worked at Cheley Colorado Camps for much of his adult life, spent a summer as a Funsultant for Super Duper Arts Camp here in LA, taught silly call-and-response camp songs to justice-impacted youth in the high deserts of western Colorado, and spent years helping grownups connect with nature and with themselves while guiding hikes at The Ashram in Calabasas. NOTE: He is NOT FRED. Only Fred is Fred. * Who is Fred? You'll have to show up to find out, because FRED WILL BE THERE. Want more shows and deals? Subscribe to our Newsletter . It’s fun!
